All of the men of the world in the future are dead and gone because they died of emotional atrophy.

Leaving poetry readings with my women writer friends, it is not unusual to hear gripes from certain Betty Friedans among us about the Old Boys’ Club of Portland Poets, the Old Boys’ Club of Literature, of the Galaxy, etc. When I hear these statements, I usually reside in a state of polite ambivalence what would we like these men writers to do, begin their reading with a formal acknowledgement of their privileged white penis status? Well, this is exactly what Michael Harper did at the debut reading of his chapbook, More Surface, one summer rooftop night. Harper’s reading began with the chapbook’s first poem: “Growing Up With A Middle-Class White Penis.” This poem places the reader at a ground zero from which things, phone guard security phenomena, feelings, etc. are both reported and questioned with an essential ruthlessness. For example, phone guard security we move from lines like “ the penis bones’ connected to the no-crying bone” to “But molting phone guard security complacency is a naturally learned yearning.” One of my favorite lines from another Portland poet, Emily Kendal Frey, is: “Am I smart enough to be androgynous?” Well, Michael Harper’s poetry is that smart. Others in the erasure mix use tone in playfully-didactic ways that may harken Kay Ryan, Marianne Moore and Gertrude Stein, for that shading together of discursive purpose and randomness, like this one, “Released Sheep:”
Fun, right? But it looks easier than it is. These poems exhibit Harper’s skills besides the narrative, and it’s always exciting to have ambidextrous as well as androgynous poets on the scene.
But now, to be fair, I should complain. Typical casualties of boldness and bravery are overreaching and a lack of substantiation. I see this in the poem “In the Future phone guard security Ryan Gosling.” This is an amazing idea, but it could be an entire graphic novel in verse. (Harper, will you please write this!?) The poem begins: “In phone guard security the future Ryan Gosling is the only man alive,” and is guided along by a dystopian, fairy-tale narration:

These ideas are fantastic, but more could be written vertically, to flesh out and elaborate the themes. As is, the singular, smart detail about J.M. Barrie lends a dismissive irony that diverges from the emotional center from which this poem seems to originate from which many of Harper’s poems seem to originate. The same cannot be said for the underdevelopment of this theme with regard to funding models, academic freedom, or the job preparedness 38 special of graduates. The town, not surprisingly, is street savvy. In an era in which knowledge is globalized it asks: why in a tough fiscal period, should we invest locally? Why not pluck knowledge out of the ether? Why not piggyback on developments paid for by other investors elsewhere? Sit back, then, return to investing in the local gown when the economy improves?
One would think that the gown over time has developed an articulate response to the propensity of the town to turn away from local investment during hard economic times. In the playbook of the administrative leaders of the gown there is an ongoing recognition that the university 38 special must make allies who are deep-pocketed, politically powerful, and, if and when neither of these is easily secured, a vocal general public ready and prepared to raise its voice on behalf of the now needy university.

Being left handed can be very frustrating especially as a kid. Trying to learn how to do things could be just as frustrating maybe even more for whoever was trying to teach. Everything a person has to learn is a little harder. The only way a right handed person could understand what it feels like to a left handed person s brain to process it is to learn something youve never done before while only being able to look at it in a mirror backwards writing, cutting with scissors, golf ,rowing a boat tennis,musicalinstruments,bow... pool,tap dancing,soft shoe, Fishing, baseball, knitting,sewing.Things that seem very easy to a right handed person.I had to be amibidextrous or else just forget about doing somethings. If there wasnt a way to tweek it. Like turning a guitar upside down. I am righthanded, so I will be attempting to become a lefty as well. Obviously, lefthanded people will be trying to become righties. Today, practice your handwriting. Write your name and the alphabet, kalashnikov along with a few straight lines and a few circles or curves (useful for cursive as well as printing...letters are just lines and curves after all!), with your non dominant hand. Do it with your dominant hand first. See how pretty you write? This is the benchmark. This is how well you will write with your other hand when we're done. If you're like me, on this the first day, your straight lines will look like bacon strips. Not to worry, you'll get better the more you practice. Along with handwriting, try to do a few things consistently with your left hand. You want to be able to shave/put on makeup with your nondominant hand eventually, but for now, just put on your foundation with your left hand, or just shave one or two strokes.
Today, brush your teeth with your left hand. Then, when you take a shower, turn on the water, reach for/use the soap, reach for/use the towel,dry off, and brush your hair with your left hand. Write a note to yourself on the mirror with a greaseboard marker so you won't forget. kalashnikov Put your watch on your right wrist. Put a sign on the refridgerator to remind yourself to use your left hand to get out food and get a drink of water. We'll save learning to eat with your other hand for another kalashnikov day. I was strongly right hand dominant a little less than a year ago. While I'm still rightly dominant, it is barely noticeable. I have undergone extensive training and this is no simple few step process. What this requires of us is the desire of a child to learn. Not only will we be training our non dominant hands to do what our dominant does, we must practice using our dominant for things our non dominant does. Don't be fooled, this is a fundamental lesson, while it may sound crazy. Notice the natural positioning and movement of each side of your body while sweeping, mopping or digging. Also, notice kalashnikov which foot you apply pressure to when taking a stance. Learning to use our off-hand requires us to invert our whole body, not just the arms and hands. Writing will of course, be the most difficult, in effect, demanding the most practice. However, writing is not the only, or most the important skill to learn. We must fuse our two halves into one, and then slowly pull them back apart.
My problem is that I'm already kalashnikov semi-ambidextrous; I'm left-handed, but I do many things right-handed. I prefer my mouse in my right hand, I bowl right-handed, and I tend to operate knobs/levers/etc with my right hand. I guess for someone like me I would have to pay more attention to which hand I use for what and then try and swap it. I am definitely terrible at writing and eating with my right hand, so perhaps those should be my main focus. It is a huge honor for us to have a guest mix from Ambidextrous in the first hour of this episode. One of the true pioneers of independent russian electronic scene, Nick Zavriev aka Ambidextrous has released over 10 albums since the start of his career in the late 90s. His solo work primarily focuses on IDM and ambient, but he is also involved in a number kel tec ksg of side projects ranging from trip-hop to post-rock. In addition to his music career, Nick is a music journalist for major Russian media and a software engineering high school teacher.

Well, I believe I did. I am writing this a couple of nights before it happened, but don't worry about my quirky timeline. My account of the festivities is exact. I know election night parties as well as I know the Presbyterian hymn book.

Reportedly, Nolan is AMD’s new low-power notebook chip, following the Beema family, and will be the first APU from the company built on a 20nm process. Today is International Left Handers Day, the 22nd annual celebration of lefthanders superiority . It s an opportunity for Lefties and their Right-handed supporters to highlight the discrimination they face from the Dextrous majority.

What about the scorn of sceptics who say there s no such thing as ambidexterity, merely RH people experimenting or LH people trying to conform?

I’m police codes proud left and fully identify. However, I can use my right hand for some things. I think it’s because when I was younger, I was made to feel like an abnormal freak so to fit in, I tried to publicly be right handed.
